About the Workshop :

URDU HAI JISKA NAAM is a six-weekend course that helps you to learn read and write the celebrated language of Urdu using a blend of Technology Literature and Cinema.

Tanzil Rahman is a poet and an entrepreneur based in New Delhi. He is the co-founder of Karvaan and facilitates an Urdu learning program at Karvaan. Professionally he runs a consulting firm named Stepping Cloud and is an alumnus of AMU and IIM Bangalore

Course outline :

Class 1:

Brief History and origin of Urdu language.

Key stages in the development of Urdu.

Alphabet introduction and pronunciation.

Importance of Dots.

Class 2:

Alphabet families.

Etymology( origin of word)

Short vowels.

Classes 3 & 4:

Truncated letters.

Various shapes letters take while writing.

Ahrab/short vowels ( Zher , Zabar ,Phesh ).

Importance of shoshay ( like in س seen)

Letters that don’t join with the next letter.

Classes 5:

Understanding the formation of words by dissecting ( Jhoor - Toor) them (Two-letter words, three-letter words, four-letter words, five-letter words)

Use of Noon Ghunna, Doo Chashmi he and Hamza.

Letters that take new shapes , Ain, Choti he, Choti ye.

Classes 6:

Tashdeed, Jazm, Mad, long/ stressed vowels.

Make words by joining letters ( Toor - Jhoor).

Syntex ; introducing sentence construction.

Reading and writing.

Make small sentences of the given words and share.

Class 7:

Grammar.

Reading poetry and prose.

Share your queries before next class so we can together try to answer them.

Class 8:

Share something you wrote maybe some poetry or a simple paragraph.

( Your own or you can share someone else’s work).

Share this before class so that we can discuss this in class.
