Bhatpara, North 24 Parganas, West Bengal – The Opposition BJP has alleged that two of its workers were shot at by Trinamool Congress (TMC) loyalists in Bhatpara on the morning of August 28, 2024. The incident occurred outside the Anglo-India Jute Mill, sparking a new wave of tension amid the ongoing statewide 12-hour bandh called by the BJP.

Former BJP MP Arjun Singh led the accusations, claiming that TMC-backed miscreants were responsible for firing at the BJP workers. The attack allegedly took place as the party continues its protests against the state's ruling government, particularly in response to the police action during the 'Nabanna Abhijan' rally a day earlier. The BJP has been protesting over the police crackdown on demonstrators who marched to the State Secretariat, demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

The ruling TMC, however, has rejected the allegations, stating that the BJP is fabricating claims to stir political unrest. The police, meanwhile, have contradicted the BJP's version of events, stating that the two injured men were not shot but were beaten by a group of people outside the mill. Both men were taken to Bhatpara State General Hospital for treatment.

The incident has further fueled the ongoing political rivalry between the BJP and TMC in West Bengal as the bandh continues across the state.
