ImThe outlawed ULFA(I) claimed that a missile attack by Indian “occupational forces” on its camp in Myanmar killed two senior commanders, Brigadier Ganesh Asom and Colonel Pradip Asom, during the funeral of Lieutenant General Nayan Asom, who was earlier killed in a drone strike. The attack reportedly injured several others, including civilians. While ULFA(I) vowed revenge against what it called a “colonial nation”, the Indian Army and Assam Rifles denied any knowledge of the bombardment. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said no attack was carried out from Assam’s soil. ULFA(I) remains the only active extremist group in Assam refusing to hold peace talks without discussions on sovereignty.
