Mumbai—Parvathy Thiruvothu, a prominent Malayalam actress and Women in Cinema Collective member, has voiced concerns about gender discrimination in the film industry, calling for a thorough clean-up across all film sectors.

Her remarks follow the upheaval caused by the Justice Hema Committee report on sexual exploitation in Malayalam cinema, which has prompted many others to come forward with their experiences.

Addressing the issue, Parvathy stated, "There is a 'keeda' in all film industries, and we must clean it up ourselves. However, I do believe that things are changing now. When we speak up for ourselves, we stand for everyone else. We need allies."

She added that tackling gender discrimination in the male-dominated film industry is a complex and ongoing process. "The more you ask this question and engage, it's great... but we just don't have enough time to answer this right now," she said during a group interview with media representatives.
